Local transport services integrating with national network, for benefit of remote rural dwellers

Chief Executive Anne Graham joined Alan Kelly TD, Minister for the Environment, Community and Local Government on Friday (June 12) to launch the Transport Coordination Unit in Littleton, Co Tipperary.

The Tipperary TCU is one of 18 Units being set-up across Ireland to coordinate bus services for people living in remote areas, and to enable them access local services such as supermarkets, hospitals, financial institutions, or onward transport services – often from their own doorstep.

In 2012, the National Transport Authority assumed responsibility for restructuring the Rural Transport Programme, and is now working to complete the process, which will protect the future provision of these important community transport services and will integrate them into the wider national transport network.
