Luas is Dublin city’s Light Rail Transit System (tram). It carries over 90,000 passengers and operates two lines:

Luas Red Line is 20kms in length and has 32 Stops. It runs from Tallaght to The Point and from Saggart to Connolly.

Luas Green Line is 24.5km in length and has 35 Stops. It runs from Brides Glen to Broombridge via the City centre.

Both lines have Park and Ride and Cycle and Ride facilities.

  • Green Lines trams operate northbound from Brides Glen or Sandyford to Parnell or Broombridge
  • Green Line trams operating northbound to Parnell operate southbound from Parnell to Sandyford or Brides Glen
  • Green Line trams operate southbound from Broombridge or Parnell to Sandyford or Brides Glen
  • Red Line trams operate eastbound from Tallaght, Saggart to Connolly or The Point
  • Red Line trams operate westbound from The Point or Connolly to Saggart or Tallaght

The reusable smart card stores Travel Credit that is used each time you “Touch On” and “Touch Off” on your journey. See our TFI Leap Card page for more details. Two benefits from using your TFI Leap Card are Fare Capping and the Leap 90 Discount. Discounts are applied automatically when touching on and touching off along your travels. Don’t forget to Touch On using a platform Validator before you get on a tram and Touch Off after.

TFI Leap Card tickets can be purchased at ticket vending machines at stops, online through the TFI Leap Card website or in selected retail outlets. Luas Tax Saver Monthly & Annual Ticket information is available on the Luas website. Luas and Bus and/or Rail Monthly & Annual Taxsaver Ticket information is available on the TaxSaver website.

Interchange between the Red and Green Luas Lines

You can switch between the two Luas lines at stops – Abbey Street, O’Connell GPO and Marlborough Street. This makes for easy access to Saggart, Tallaght, Connolly Station or The Point (3Arena) from the Green Luas Line. This is also useful for passengers on the Red Line as it gives them easy access to Broombridge, Cabra, Phibsborough and all of Luas Green Line stops out as far as Brides Glen.

  1. Passengers on the Red Luas Line can disembark on Abbey Street and walk 1 minute to the Marlborough Street stop and board the Green Line that travels to South Dublin.
  2. You can get off the Red Line at the Abbey Street stop and walk 2 minutes to the O’Connell GPO stop and board a Green Line that travels north towards Broombridge.
  3. Hop off the Green Line at O’Connell GPO stop, you can walk 2 minutes to Abbey Street and board a Red Line tram heading towards Tallaght or go the opposite direction to Connolly and The Point (3Arena).
  4. You can get off the Green Line at Marlborough Street and walk two minutes towards the Abbey Street stop and board a Red Line tram travelling westbound towards Tallaght or eastbound towards The Point.
