Bike Week Logo

Bike Week is a celebration and promotion of the benefits of cycling. This year, Bike Week will kick off on Saturday May 14th and end on Sunday May 22nd.

A variety of events both on the ground and online will be held throughout Ireland. Details of what will be happening in your part of the country will be published over the next few months.

Greenways and Cycle Routes

You will find information on some of the Greenways around Ireland below, as well as useful links and resources to find a route near you for Bike Week and beyond.

Waterford Greenway

Route: Waterford City to Dungarvan

Distance: 46km

The old railway line from Waterford City to Dungarvan is a spectacular 46km off-road cycling and walking trail which travels through time and nature across eleven bridges, three impressive viaducts and a long atmospheric tunnel all the way from the River Suir to Dungarvan Bay.

Limerick Greenway

Route: Rathkeale to Abbeyfeale Kerry Border

Distance: 40km

Carving a 40km path through the local countryside, the Limerick Greenway offers an authentic experience of rural Ireland for cyclists, runners and walkers. Following the old Limerick to Kerry railway line, the Greenway seamlessly links the West Limerick landscape with bustling towns and villages and some of the country’s most historic sites.

Old Rail Trail

Route: Athlone to Mullingar

Distance: 42km

This 42km Greenway brings walkers and cyclists through the very heart of Ireland, from the Royal Canal in Mullingar to the River Shannon in Athlone. An entirely off-road walking and cycling trail it’s very safe for families or anyone looking for a leisurely spin. Scenic and peaceful, you will hear nothing but birdsong and the whirr of the spokes on your bike as you pedal along.

The Great Western Greenway

Route: Achill to Westport

Distance: 42km

Escape the bustle of urban life on the 42km Great Western Greenway. The Greenway traverses Ireland’s Atlantic coast between Westport town and Achill Island and visits the picturesque villages of Newport and Mulranny. It passes by some of the West of Ireland’s most dramatic mountains and offers magnificent views of Clew Bay and its many islands.

Royal Canal Greenway

Route: Maynooth – Cloondara / Longford

Distance: 130km

The Royal Canal Greenway has something for everyone. Pedal your way along tranquil paths bursting with wildlife and birdsong or watch barge boats pass by as you explore the Greenway. The Royal Canal Greenway is generally level and surfaced. Gradients are kept to a minimum and you’ll find plenty of places to rest along the way. There are many access points to this stunning Greenway, but cyclists are asked to give way to walkers, slow down and warn of your approach.

Suir Blueway – Cycleway

Route: Clonmel to Carrick on Suir

Distance: 21km (Cycleway)

Cycling is the perfect way to explore the river trails, towns and spectacular countryside along Suir Blueway Tipperary. Bring the family for a gentle pedal by the river. There is a 21km marked cycle route along the river towpath from Clonmel to Carrick-on-Suir which is ideal for leisure cyclists of all abilities. The route is divided into four stages so you can decide on the distance yourself.
