Open to new and existing cyclists living in County Dublin and the Limerick Metropolitan Area

This is your chance to put your city on the European cycling stage!  The European Cycling Challenge – (#ecc2016eu) is a challenge among European Cities – the City that “cycles” the longest total distance wins!

If you cycle in County Dublin or the Metropolitan area of Limerick, you can sign up to this FREE city team competition – the European Cycling Challenge – (#ecc2016eu). To register simply download the free App Cycling365 to your smartphone and join the Dublin or Limerick teams. The app will also track your bike journeys during the challenge. You can also register on, where you can find more detailed information on the challenge.

The European Cycle Challenge was launched in 2012 by the University of Bologna and every year since has encouraged cyclists throughout Europe to register their trips throughout the month of May. Dublin is participating in the challenge again this year, for only the second time.

Anne Graham, CEO of the National Transport Authority said that “we are delighted to support this urban cycling challenge through our Smarter Travel Workplaces initiative.  Its aim is very much aligned to our own of finding ways to reduce CO2 and motivates people to consider alternatives to the car on some of their trips such as going to work, school or the shops. Last May, 26,020 citizens in 40 European cities cycled 2,059,271 km in total. This year, we hope that Dublin and Limerick will make a notable contribution to the total kms cycled”.

The Dublin team entry is supported by Dublin City Council, Dun Laoghaire Rathdown County Council, South Dublin County Council, Fingal County Council and the Dublin Cycling Campaign. The Limerick Metropolitan area is supported by Smarter Travel Limerick.
